What should I do to stay in Azerbaijan for longer than an e-Visa permits?
If you entered Azerbaijan with a tourist e-visa and wish to stay longer, you cannot extend the standard 30-day stay under normal circumstances. Instead, you must apply for a new visa after leaving the country or, if eligible, request a change of visa type through the State Migration Service (SMS).
Standard stay limits
Azerbaijan’s tourist e-visa allows visitors to stay for up to 30 consecutive days per entry. The e-visa itself is valid for 90 days, meaning you can enter anytime during that period, but the actual stay cannot exceed 30 days. This visa is non-extendable unless there are valid reasons beyond tourism.
When an extension is possible
Visa extensions are granted only in exceptional situations such as:
- Medical emergencies or ongoing treatment
- Force majeure events (e.g., natural disasters)
- Flight cancellations or travel disruptions
- Urgent business or legal obligations
- Family emergencies or deaths
Applications must be submitted before your visa expires—preferably at least three working days in advance. Each case is reviewed individually, and approval is not guaranteed.
